Lucy MacIsaac trained and danced competitively from a young age with the Cape Breton School of the Arts, and later, the MacDonald Dance Academy. Throughout her younger years she took every opportunity to further her training, travelling around Canada and the USA taking part in the highest level industry events and summer technique intensives with instructors from the National Ballet School, Royal Winnipeg Ballet, and Toronto Dance Theatre. A self proclaimed, “Broadway Kid,” Lucy dove into every aspect of musical theatre training, taking acting classes and performing in plays at the Boardmore Theatre and Halifax Fringe Festival, attending summer musical theatre intensives, and private/choral vocal training. She was Miss Cape Breton 1999 and travelled to the Miss Canada International pageant, was runner up for singing in CMTC (Canadian Model and Talent Search,) and was a national finalist on television show “Popstars: The One.”

Although Lucy loved the stage, she ultimately discovered that her true passion was to create. She found her calling when she began teaching locally in 1999 with D&R Dance and went on to open her first dance studio, Lucy Wintermans School of Dance (2002-2020.) She is now the proud owner of Dance Artistry (est 2022) which boasts two locations in the CBRM.

She is a highly accredited instructor and holds an Associate Acrobatics certification and Licentiate Ballet certification with the Canadian Dance Teachers Association, as well as professional certifications in Alixa Flexibility (Mod 1-4 & Contortion Foundations.) Acrobatic Arts, and is a competitive adjudicator through the Professional Adjudicators Alliance (PAA). She also completed two teacher training intensives through the PULSE New York.

Lucy’s commitment to providing professional training is her top priority. Her competitive work is consistently celebrated with countless overall awards, scholarships, and recognition for outstanding choreography. Her students have gone on to professional programs at York University, Randolph Academy, Toronto Dance Theatre, and Quinte Ballet, have been employed performers on Cruise Ships, Resorts, and professional dance companies, and many have gone on to pursue careers in teaching and choreography. She is a sought-after choreographer for theatre productions, musicals, pageants, and fashion shows, and continues to travel around the province teaching workshops, doing guest choreography, and judging competitions.

Lucy believes that all dancers deserve the best possible training. In her words, “You never know who your child is going to turn out to be, so give them the best chance to discover their gifts.” Her approach to teaching includes a structured and progressive program where dancers can develop their individual strengths while embracing teamwork and community. She fosters an extremely positive, fun, and supportive studio atmosphere, where every dancer is a valued member regardless of age, level or ability. There are two rules at Dance Artistry: Show up and try your best. As Miss Lucy says, the rest is up to her.

Lucy is the proud mother of twin daughters (19) who are currently in university, Ella (Dalhousie) and Adrianna (York,) and lives in Sydney with her husband Steve and their fur babies, Sammy and Joey.
